Tenant insurance
If a listing on Rentably says tenant insurance is required, this is what your landlord is asking for — and you can get a quote for it right here.
What it covers
Your belongings
Furniture, electronics, clothing and everything else you own, against things like fire, theft and water damage. The landlord’s policy covers the building, not what is inside your unit.
Your liability
What you owe if someone is hurt in your unit, or if damage starting in your unit spreads to the rest of the building. This is usually the part a lease sets a minimum for.
Somewhere to stay
Additional living expenses if your unit becomes unlivable and you have to move out while it is repaired.
Many landlords ask for proof of a policy before handing over keys, and some set a minimum liability amount in the lease. Check your lease for the number before you buy, because the policy has to meet it.
Get a quote
Quotes come from Square One Insurance Services, a licensed Canadian insurer. Rentably does not sell insurance and cannot advise you on what to buy — the form below is theirs, and you deal with them directly.
Start your quote here and Square One applies a $10 credit to your policy.
If you buy a policy after starting your quote here, Rentably earns a referral fee from Square One. It costs you nothing extra, and we are not paid more for a bigger policy.
Prefer a full window? Open the quote on squareone.ca. You can also finish a quote you started here over the phone with them later.
Already have a policy?
You do not have to buy through us. If you are already insured, you can send your landlord proof from your applications instead, once they have approved you.
